Advert for Borwick's Baking Powder 4163
Medium: Print on paper
This advertisement is for Borwick's Baking Powder. George Borwick started selling his powders and baking aids on a small stall in Walthamstow Market. His product was in great demand as there were no reliable rising agents available. To ensure that bread and cakes were raised, home made yeast had to be added to the ingredients; a mixture of flour, water, potato, salt and sugar was used but results were inconsistent. George Borwick was soon able to rent a shop in Walthamstow High Street and his business flourished. Borwick’s eventually became part of Pillsbury Flour.
