This is an advertisement for LePage's Liquid Glue. LePages was established in 1876 in Gloucester, Massachusetts and they are now are a leading manufacturer of tape. One of the main means of advertising during the 1800s was through posters, these were not subject to the advertising tax and they were very effective at disseminating information. Within 6 hours of a poster going up, everybody living in a city could have access to the information. In 1817 there were so many posters pasted on every available space that they were branded a ‘public nuisance’ and the Metropolitan Paving Act stated that permission had to be gained before a poster could be put up.
