This is an advertisement for A. Guinness, Sons & Co. Arthur Guinness founded his brewing company at St James’ Gate in Dublin in 1759. At this time there were over 200 breweries in Dublin and because there was free access to a constant water supply, there were 10 on St James Street alone. The first record of Guinness’ stout being drunk in London was in 1794, soon after this date he handed over the business to his three sons. They treated their employees well, pay was about 15% more than the average wage, provided widow's pensions, offered housing schemes, gave paid holidays and provided free medical care and education. Workers were even given free Guinness every day.
