This is an advertisement for Edward's Dessicated Soup. Until the 20th century soup was a staple food at every meal for the middle and upper classes. There were endless different varieties of soup but some of the more popular were made with onion, cabbage, beans and parsley. The working classes tended to avoid soup, perhaps because they did not have the equipment to make it nor the cutlery to eat it. With the introduction of packeted foods, soup like Edward’s became more popular.
