Advert for J Cumming, van & cart builder reverse
Medium: Print on paper
This is the reverse of the advert.
This leaflet is advertsing the services of John Cumming, van and cart builder. The horse drawn carriage was the main vehicle of transport in 19th century cities and carts were important to those living in more rural areas. The cart builder was usually based in the city and was commissioned to build the carriages to precise specifications. For the more wealthy, comfort was the top priority and seats were made of velvet or leather, curtains were fitted and there were even matching cushions. For others like milkmen or rag and bone men, their cart was their way of life and they would have been built to last.
