This is an advertisement for Grove Clothier, a clothing store. At the beginning of the 19th Century most people’s clothes, whether rich or poor, were hand made and either home made or bought from tailors and dressmakers. By the end of the century mass production of many items like shirts and trousers meant that the cost of clothes became cheaper. Large department stores and clothiers like ‘Grove’s’, stocked almost every item available from hosiery and underwear to overcoats and sporting jackets.
