Advert for Charles Riley & Co's Blue Bell feeding bottle
Medium: Print on paper
This is an advertisement for Charles Riley’s Blue Bell Feeding Bottle. By the late 19th century there was a greater understanding of bacteria and the spread of disease and ‘hygienic feeding bottles’ for babies would have been very popular with wealthy parents. Only middle and upper class families could afford to buy bottles like the one advertised in this leaflet. These bottles were actually very hard to clean because water supplies were often not pure and disinfectants were expensive.
