This is an advertisement for the sale of coffee urns. Until the 17th century coffee was made in a pot by pouring water onto the crushed beans but this meant that they remained at the bottom of the cup. The coffee pot was designed around the way that the ground coffee reacts with the water. The base of the pot had a large bulge and the spout was usually in the middle of the vessel. By the 19th century it was fashionable to have a coffee urn and accompanying tableware and slowly they became more ornate and elaborate.
