Advert for Charles Lynes, tailor
Medium: Print on paper
This is an advertisement for Charles Lynch's tailors shop. Gentlemen in the 19th century had their suits hand made at tailors like ‘Charles Lynch’, who is featured on this advertisement. Before 1860 it was fashionable for the pieces of the suit (jacket, waistcoat and trousers) to be made from different materials and checks and stripes were popular materials for the trouser. After 1860 the three pieces were made from the same material, this being wool or silk. This tailor is giving away a piano in a raffle as an advertising gimic.
