Advert for BA Moore & Son, wine & brandy importers
This is an advertisement for B. A. Moore's wine and brandy importing service. A tavern has stood on this site in Fleet Street since the 16th century, and a clue to how old the pub is comes in the form of a sign that says ‘Rebuilt 1667’. There have been many famous patrons including Dr Samuel Johnston, William Thackery, Mark Twain, and Theodre Rossevelt. Charles Dickens even describes the pub as having an ‘old world appearance’. ‘Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese’ public house still stands on this site today.
