Advert for JE Bloom & Co, boy's & youth's outfitters, reverse side
Medium: Print on paper
This is the reverse of the leaflet.
This is an advertisement for J. E. Bloom's clothing store. During the 19th century boys clothing was very specialised. Once old enough to wear trousers (young boys and girls wore pinafores and dresses) clothes were made to allow freedom and movement. Boys were encouraged to be physically active, to climb trees, run across fields and to sail boats and their clothing had to be appropriate for their very active lifestyles. Sailor suits were popular for young boys and as they grew older school uniforms had an impact on boy's dress and suits like the ‘Norfolk’ or the ‘Eton’ were fashionable.
