Advert for T Cross, ironmonger
Medium: Print on paper
The signs hanging outside 19th century ironmonger’s stores were very often shaped in the form of large keys or padlocks. Windows were filled with many knives and household tools; inside the store, shelves were filled with everything from saucepans to paint and wallpaper to candles. Larger items such as dustbins, watering cans and fire guards were stored on the street in front of the store.
