This is an advertisement for A. East, a boat builder from Reading. Caversham is a small town near Reading that is situated on the River Thames. During this period for the first time working men had leisure time away from their place of employment, to spend enjoying activities such as playing sport, visiting the seaside, reading, playing music and enjoying the countryside. Hiring a small pleasure boat and travelling along the Thames would have been a very popular past time. On the left of the photograph is the coat of arms of the Empress Eugenie and to the left is another of the Royal Military College in Sandhurst.
