This is an advertisement for B. G. Brown’s spring lever oil feeder. Oil was the main source of power for heating and lighting in the late 19th century home as well as being the fuel for industrial machinery. At first animal and vegetable oils were used but after the 1860 paraffin was the most popular oil. This illustration features an illustration of the oil can and a list of their price per dozen.
