This is an advertisement for Dangerfield's igniting match case- or lighter. Smoking was very fashionable during the Victorian period, although cigars and pipes were more popular at the beginning of the period, cigarettes took over from the 1880s. The cigarette rolling machine had been invented and they produced about 200 cigarettes a minute (today's machines produce about 9000 a minute!) The cigarette lighter featured on this leaflet was the most modern gadgets one could own.
