Advert for Sutton's Centrifugal Cinder Sifter
Medium: Print on paper
During the 19th century, homes were generally heated by wood or coal fires and it was a relentless job to ensure that the fires were continually burning. In larger, wealthier homes it was a maid's job to get up early and start the fire. A cinder sifter like the one advertised in this leaflet would have been an invaluable device, ensuring that cinders could be reused and that ashes could be collected ready for deposit in a dustbin for collection.
