This is an advertisement for Hudson's soap. The chemist R. S. Hudson began manufacturing soap in the back of his small shop in West Bomich in 1837. It is said that he was grinding the soap with a pestle and mortar because his wife had severe arthritis and found it easier to use the soap once it was flaked. By 1854 had was employing 10 women in his factory in Liverpool and his business quickly expanded. Hudson’s became part of Lever Brothers in 1908.
