This is the reverse of the advert.
This is an advertisement for F. Allen and Sons Cocoa. A bitter liquid made from beans from the Cocoa tree was drunk well before the New World was conquered, by the Aztecs, but when it was introduced to Europeans they did not like the bitter taste so they added sugar and vanilla. Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries cocoa drink remained the preserve of the wealthy and it was not until new techniques had been developed in the 19th century that it was available more people. Firms like F Allen & Sons produced chocolate in both liquid and solid forms.
