This is an advertisement McDougall's self raising flour. for Alexander McDougall was a chemist from Manchester who discovered a way of lightening flour with a yeast substance. Yeast produces carbon dioxide which makes flour raise however it is difficult to store and hard to treat so McDougal developed an artificial substance that worked in the same way. They built a mill in Manchester but were more well known for their Wheatsheaf Mill in Milwall, Isle of Dogs.
