A patent was taken out in 1864 that referred to a bottle containing draught beer, which had a top pressure of carbon dioxide to maintain the fresh, carbonated condition of the beer. It took a long time for bottled beers to become popular but the introduction of bottled beers was a welcome step for shops selling the beer as well as for the brewers because they no longer had to wait for the beer to mature before it could be sold. This is an advertisement for alcohol sold in Barratt and Elers bottles.
