Advert For Charles Reiley & Co.'s Feeding Bottle
Medium: Print on paper
The infant mortality rate was very high during the 19th century, this was especially the case in cites where conditions were often appalling. Middle and Upper class families could afford to buy bottles like the one advertised in this leaflet. These bottles were very hard to clean especially as clean water was itself very hard to obtain. There was a greater understanding of bacteria and contagion and leaflets advertising ‘hygienic feeding bottles’ would have helped sell the product.
