This leaflet is advertising Archbishop Sumner's Memorial schools in Kennington Road. John Bird Sumner (1780-1862), was educated at Eton and Cambridge and went on to become a master at Eton in 1802. He joined the priesthood in 1803 and became Archbishop of Canterbury in 1848. He was a well known evangelical preacher and these church schools were set up by him to meet the educational and spiritual needs of children in London.
