Victorian shoe-shops made specific moulds of the feet of their wealthier customers, ensuring that their shoes fitted perfectly. A wealthy woman would have had a pair of shoes to match every outfit. If her shoes did not fit properly, or she was unhappy with the finish, she could easily withdraw her business and get another cobbler to make her shoes.
