Printing technology became infinitely more sophisticated in the Victorian period. Relief and intaglio printing, available from the early 19th century, were now joined by lithography and colour printing. Paper was also more widely available and cheaper to make. The result was a ninefold increase in print production in England from the beginning of Victoria's reign to the end. This aggregate included a jump in the number of leaflets and fliers such as this in circulation: even a small firm could afford to produce print runs of 10,000 or more.
