Advert For A Lamp
Medium: Print on paper
At the start of the 19th century most houses were lit by candles and oil lamps. Interior fittings like chandeliers and sconces were mainly used on special occasions, but oil lamps (like the one advertised in this leaflet), candles and even the fire were more everyday sources of light. By the 1890s gas lighting was common in Victorian homes and electricity was even being introduced to some.
