Advert for W Wright & Co, rag, bone and bottle warehouse
Medium: Print on paper
Rag-and-bone men such as Wright earned a living recycling other people’s castaway items. After collection, the rag-and-bone man had to sort through the material to see what was salvageable. Any reusable articles of clothing were mended or patched and sold on to second hand stores; smaller rags were grouped and sent on barges to the paper making mills in Shalford. Bones were collected from butchers and other businesses and sent to bone china factories in the Midlands.
