As the custom for taking afternoon tea grew, so did the range of paraphernalia designed with it. A shop like The Little Wonder Tea Store would have sold teapots, cosies, sugar bowls, slop bowls, teacups and saucers.

Many rules of etiquette imposed on the drinking of afternoon tea. The pot would be bought up by a servant who would pour the first cup. Thereafter it was the hostess’ job to make sure that there was a constant supply of tea.
