Advert for W Dent, dairy produce
Medium: Print on paper
Milk, cheese and butter were dietary staples in Britain in the 19th century. Customers would go to shops such as Dent's and have their purchases delivered to their home later in the day. Horse-drawn carts carried churns of milk and trays of butter; the dairyman or delivery boy would measure out appropriate quantities. Dishonest workers were known to add water to the milk so that it went further, keeping the remaining good quality milk for themselves.
