Advert for Walter King, grocer 6667
Medium: Print on paper
There were often a number of grocery stores in any one village and in larger towns there were two or three stores per street. With all this competition, it was important for individual stores to have a gimmick or attention-grabbing device. This particular store is giving away free eggs to all customers who buy ¼ pound of tea or butter. In the late 19th century, this would have been an appealing offer because fresh eggs were expensive.
