This is an advertisement for H. Bond’s indelible ink. During the 19th century with the advances in chemistry new inks were developed that used amonia based aniline dyes. A wide range of coloured inks could be developed using these dyes. These inks were prone to fading when exposed to light and would smudge if not allowed to dry properly but they were much less corrosive than inks used previously that in time actually burned through the paper.
