Advert For M. Parr & Company, Grocers
Medium: Print on paper
Stores selling such a wide variety of items opened for the first time during the 19th century. Although many middle and upper class customers bought their wares from these stores they did not actually go into the buildings. The proprietor was expected to bring examples of the products outside to the customer’s carriage so that they could decide which items they wanted. If the client decided that they did not want to go out they could instead send their servants to do the shopping.
