Advert For G. Stevens, Harlington Dairy
Medium: Print on paper
Dairy stores like the one featured in this leaflet sold milk, eggs, butter and cream. Until the 1850s cheap milk was available in towns from cowkeeper’s shops however cows were kept in appalling conditions in cramped and dirty sheds and the milk was often contaminated. Better quality milk and dairy produce was transported into the towns and cities from the countryside however even this could not be guaranteed to be healthy Unscrupulous farmers would add water to their produce to make it stretch further. G. Stevens is highlighting the good quality of his milk and dairy produce.
