Advert For Henry Massey, Boot Maker
Medium: Print on paper
Boots and shoes were expensive in the 19th Century because they were made by bespoke shoemakers and were fitted exactly to each customer’s feet. This meant that many people only had 2 or 3 pairs of shoes and they would have to be taken to a store like the one advertised in this leaflet to be mended. The 19th Century was a time of technical development and after the invention of the sewing machine it was much easier to make and mend shoes and boots.
