Printer: Fortey, W. S.
Medium: Print on paper
This leaflet is advertising the services of F. Head, waste paper dealer. Originally paper was made from nettles but in the 17th century there was a change to paper made from materials like linen. Rags and other waste textiles were used to make the paper. In the 19th century there was an increased demand for paper and this created a shortage of rag materials. Experiments were conducted on a range of materials such as cabbage, straw and wood to test their suitability for making paper and it was wood that was found to be the most effective. Mechanisation of production at the same time helped to transform the paper making industry making production faster and cheaper. This waste paper merchants is recycling old waste paper from libraries and offices.
