Advert For A Meeting Of The Lambeth Ratepayers Association
Medium: Print on paper
For most of the 19th century South Lambeth was part of Surrey, it was a rural area, was marshy in places and was full of gardens supplying London with fruit and vegetables. North Lambeth was a more crowded noisy area with docks from Deptford to Lambeth Palace. Three story tenement buildings were built but these were not spacious family homes but often houses 2 or 3 families, some occupying only 1 room. Inhabitants had to work very hard to be able to afford to live in these houses and this leaflet is advertising a meeting of the Lambeth Ratepayers Association to complain about the hire rates.
