A patent was taken out in 1864 that referred to a bottle containing draught beer, which had a top pressure of carbon dioxide to maintain the fresh, sparkling condition of the beer. It took a long time for bottled beers to become popular but the introduction of bottled beers was a welcome step for shops selling the beer as well as for the brewers because they no longer had to wait for the beer to mature before it could be sold. On this leaflet can be seen beers from brewers such as Whitbread, Bass and Guiness.
