Many homes in the 19th century were beset with insects such as fleas, cockroaches, flies and beetles. This leaflet is advertising Keating’s insect powder which helped to rid the home of these pests. Interestingly this leaflet suggests that the powder should be sprinkled on the pillow and sheets before bedtime so that the insects cannot bite the person whilst they are sleeping. The leaflet also features 4 engravings of members of the Royal family to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. Advertisers still use famous celebrities today to draw attention to their products.
