This is a leaflet for Hildeyard’s meat and vegetable biscuit. Pets became popular for the first time in the 19th century, before this date animals were worked and we not kept in the home. Budgerigars, cats and dogs were the most popular pets at this time. Much care and attention was lavished on a household pet food was expensive as was veterinary care. Showing dogs also became popular at this time and Crufts was first held 1891 and the Kennel Club was established to regulate standards for dog shows.
