Advert for Winter's Parer & Vegetable Slicer
Medium: Print on paper
In the 19th century, people spent a lot more time preparing food than is common today. All vegetables had to be washed, peeled and chopped by hand. This was also a period of great technological development, and middle-class Victorians had a great love of gadgets and time-saving devices. A peeler like Winter’s would have been both a desirable and useful household item. As can be seen from the illustration, very little change in the design of peelers has occurred in the last century.
