This is an advertisement for Glover’s Glycerine soap powder. Glycerine was first discovered by a Swedish chemist Scheele, in 1779 but it was a French chemist Michel Eugene Chevreul who is most well known for hiswork. Soaps had been made from tallow; an animal fat. Chevreul conducted experiments to investigate the nature of the fats and oils used in soaps, he discovered a substance which he called glycerine. The use of glycerine revolutionised the soap making industry.
