Advert For Iroquois Company, Bike Hire & Repairs
Medium: Print on paper
Cycling became very popular in the late 1800s. By this time bicycles had been designed with wheels of equal size, with large pedals attached to a chain that operated the back wheel and with rubber tyres which all helped to give a much smoother ride. Both men and women enjoyed a new sense of freedom when using their bicycles, women would hitch up their skirts and could cycle freely in the company of gentlemen. The Iroquois Cycling Company not only taught people to ride but also hired out bikes. The purchase price of a new bicycle was often as much as 6 months wages for some workers so hiring their bicycles would have been a valuable service.
