This is an advertisement for C. Isler and Company, artisan well engineers. Before water was piped into houses people had to fetch and carry buckets of water from the nearest well. For those that could afford it, horse drawn carts would be filled with water containers and they would then be delivered to their homes. Towards the end of the 19th century more and more people had piped water but it was usually to the kitchen, it was not until the 1930s that the majority of people had water piped to bathrooms in their homes.
