Medium: Print on paper
A silversmith is someone who specialises in making items from silver. In the 13th century silversmiths and goldsmiths, along with other tradesmen, formed guilds to regulate their crafts. A system of hall marking or stamping the silver was introduced to indicate that the piece had met the standards set by the guilds. During the Victorian period, wearing silver jewellery, owning silver ornaments and eating with silver cutlery became very fashionable and was a way of demonstrating wealth.
