Printer: Riddle & Couchman
Medium: Print on paper
This is an advertisement for Hancocks & Co, jewellery merchants and silversmiths. Charles Frederick Hancock was born in Bormingham in 1807. He moved to London and worked in the Hunt & Roskell jewellery store, but made his fortune when he married Maria Jane Edington. She was the daughter of a well known jewellery manufacturer and Hancock used his family connections to make Hancocks & Co one of the most famous jewellery stores in London. His business was so successful that members of the royal families across Europe were customers. Queen Victoria was so impressed that she appointed Hancocks & Co to make the Victoria Cross Medal that she had created to award to courageous members of the armed forces.
