Advert For J. Drew & Son, Portmanteau, Trunk & Bag Maker
Medium: Print on paper
This leaflet is advertising J. Drew & Sons, bag and accessory makers in the 19th century. During the 1800s travelling became fashionable as a leisure activity for the first time. New modes of travel, like the train and the cruise ship were available and so foreign travel became popular. Going on a Grand Tour of Europe was essential for both men and women who were encouraged to educate themselves and learn more about other cultures. It was essential that the correct luggage was packed so that the travellers could be respectably dressed at all time. Often many trunks and bags would be packed for short visits because a change of clothing was necessary 2 or 3 times a day.
