There are many myths surrounding the discovery of coffee. Coffee beans have been chewed raw for hundreds of years in countries such as Ethiopia and Yemen and one of the most popular legends is that a goat herder named Kaldi discovered the beans. He noticed one day that his goats were acting erratically and were surprisingly energetic. The story goes that he noticed that they were eating red berries from a bush. He used some of the berries to make a drink (allegedly the first ever cup of coffee) and realised that he too had more energy. However coffee was discovered it has always been a very popular drink in Britain.
