Advert For John Smith, Royal Label Manufacturer reverse
Medium: Print on paper
This is the reverse of the leaflet.
This is an advertisement for John Smith’s label manufacturing company. This firm was founded in 1875 to manufacture plant labels that had raised lettering and which would not rust when placed in the garden. The firm originally produced what was known as ‘Stratford Labels’ but because Queen Victoria used the labels in her garden at Windsor and Balmoral (her eyesight was fading and the raised letters helped her to identify the plants) the company was renamed ‘The Royal Label Company’ in 1876.
