Advert for Pearson & Co, needles
Medium: Print on paper
In the 17th century, British needlemakers formed a national guild known as the Worshipful Company of Needle-Makers. In London, needle businesses began to establish themselves near tailors and drapers stores in Cheapside and Threadneedle Street. The needle-making process was quite complex, with many stages of development. As such, employees were specially trained for individual tasks, from making the eyes or pointing the needles to polishing or packing.
