In the mid-19th century boots were the most common form of footwear for both men and women. There were many different styles, but perhaps the most popular was the Bulcher boot, which had an open tab front and lacing. Women also wore flat court shoes that were often beautifully embroidered, and men wore lace-up leather shoes.
