Advert For A Photographic Exhibition At The Royal Aquarium
Medium: Print on paper
Photography was one of the fastest growing professions in the late 19th century. In the 1841 census photography does not appear, in 1851 there were 51 photographers and by 1861 there were 2,879. Interest in this new technology was widespread and photographic exhibitions like the one advertised on this leaflet at the Royal Aquarium were very popular. Displaying family portraits in beautiful frames became very popular decoration for the home. The Craotint Portrait Company are offering visitors to the exhibition the chance to have their own portraits enlarged and framed.
